About the Role

Technical Innovation Coordinator - Packaging, reporting to the Sr. Director Technical Innovation is responsible for the research, development, and execution of packaging initiatives across multiple brands and product lines. Responsible for scoping and executing packaging innovations with the Procurement, Operations, and Commercial teams. The Technical Innovation Coordinator - Packaging also provides technical support and solutions for issues related to packaging, leading the NCR/CAPA process. Leads all design extensions & adaptations across multiple packaging formats for optimal design, accuracy of content and print production results.

Role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the innovation process by proposing, developing and implementing packaging options.
  • Develop primary, secondary and transport packaging in line with goals for cost, quality, and time.
  • Represent as packaging SME in project teams partnering cross-functionally (Procurement, Operations, Commercial, and Supply Chain).
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and across SNDL facility network
  • Accountable for the creation and maintenance of the packaging specifications.
  • Support the Master Data creation of new packaging items and BOMs in the ERP system.
  • Work closely with Quality and Commercial teams in addressing customer complaints related to the packaging materials.
  • Organize and conduct packaging trials in an industrial environment.
  • Monitor packaging production art development through and including final prepress deliverables, communicating revisions and ensuring all content is reviewed and approved by all required stakeholders.
  • Supports resolution of art file or printing concerns with supplier/printer, working with internal stakeholders and suppliers to complete NCRs and CAPAs
  • Responsible for understanding print production and print technology processes and standards, with special focus on Child Resistant packaging.

Experience and Qualifications

  • University Degree within discipline such as Business, Graphic Arts, Packaging Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a packaging engineering field, CPG preferred.
  • Knowledge/Experience with Corrugate, PET, Pouches and related flexible packaging
  • Experienced in the development of new products, redesigns, and Line Extensions.
  • Previous experience in CPG environment considered an asset.
  • Excellent Project Management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
