About the Role

Job Description:

As Senior Analyst, Retail Analytics, you will support SNDL's Cannabis Retail segment which operates ~200 Value Buds, Spiritleaf, and Cost Cannabis stores across Canada.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Category Strategy, you will leverage your data skills to unlock deeper understanding of business performance through reporting and analysis, including by mining primary and secondary data sources for insights and building ad hoc dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performance reporting and retail insights (50%)
    • Produce recurring (e.g., weekly sales and margin, monthly business review) and ad hoc reporting for a variety of audiences (ranging from functional teams to leadership) to elicit business performance and associated drivers
    • Ensure reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with business needs
    • Aggregate secondary (e.g., provincial board) and syndicated data sources into easily consumable insights for business teams
    • Conduct deep dives across a variety of data sources (e.g., transactional, customer loyalty, third-party) to explain business drivers and identify trends
    • Partner with the Retail Commercialization and Loyalty teams to mine customer data for insights, increase the effectiveness of campaigns, and develop member segmentation

  • Business intelligence and data visualization (30%)
    • Build PowerBI and/or Fabric dashboards in support of Category Management, Retail Commercialization, Store Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Loyalty, and other teams
    • Collaborate with Business Technology teams to define reporting requirements, enhance data platforms, and drive adoption of new data tools

  • Market insights and strategy support (20%)
    • Evaluate strategic initiatives and pilot programs by measuring impact to business KPIs and return on investment
    • Support the business casing of new strategic opportunities (e.g., major promotions, eCommerce and loyalty programs, innovation product launch)
    • Monitor market data and competitive dynamics to inform strategic positioning and uncover whitespace opportunities

Key Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of retail industry knowledge and 1-3 years of experience working in an insights and/or analytics focused role. Additional exposure working in the cannabis or CPG industry is an asset.
  • Expert with Excel and have experience building data visualizations in at least one BI tool (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, Looker, or similar)
  • Exceptional data fluency and an analytical mindset.
  • Experience handling financial acumen.
  • A critical thinker who is strategic and analytical when dealing with ambiguity.
  • Strong communication and presentation capabilities.
  • Time management, problem-solving, critical thinking skills, detail orientation, and the ability to work independently come natural to you.
