As a Packaging Lead at Baked Brosβ„’, you are responsible for driving daily packaging efficiency, product quality, and team accountability. You serve as a hands-on leader, spending at least 80% of your time on the packaging floor, coaching your team, solving issues in real time, and communicating performance metrics. • Own day-to-day packaging operations for all finished goods (tins, bags, and other formats), ensuring label accuracy, correct counts/weights, and retail-readiness before release to inventory.
    • Verify and document all compliance-critical data on packaging: Batch ID, MMJ weight, AI lot, manufacture date, expiration date, cannabinoid profile (including secondary cannabinoids such as CBC/CBG when applicable), and testing status prior to starting or releasing any batch.
    • Ensure product is packaged according to current specifications, SKU standards, and state regulatory requirements, including child-resistance, tamper-evidence, and warning/labeling rules.
    • Coordinate with the Production Lead to receive bulk gummies, confirm batch readiness, and prioritize packaging order to meet daily and weekly targets.
    • Manage the daily setup, efficient operation, and troubleshooting of all automated packaging equipment.
    • Execute line changeovers to ensure efficient operations are maintained and quality and compliance standards are met or exceeded.
  • Quality and Compliance
    • Enforce packaging quality checks at defined intervals: count/weight verification, seal integrity, label placement and content accuracy, lot/batch traceability, and presentation standards (Happy vs Stoney vs Sleepy variants).
    • Maintain complete and accurate packaging records for compliance audits: packaging logs, batch tracking sheets, label versions, machine settings/calibration checks, and training records.
    • Ensure product handling practices meet food-safe, GMP, and cannabis compliance requirements; uphold allergen and sanitation controls and proper PPE usage at all times.
    • Quarantine and document any nonconforming materials; execute rework per SOP or escalate as required.
  • Floor Leadership
    • Lead by example on the packaging floor (present at least 80% of the day), setting the pace, reinforcing safety and GMPs, and removing blockers to keep lines running.
    • Train and mentor packaging team members on SOPs, automated equipment operation, quality checks, changeovers, sanitation, and documentation.
    • Communicate hourly and daily goals, track progress on a visible goal board or tracking sheet, and hold the team accountable for throughput, quality, and 5S standards.
    • Proactively identify and resolve daily packaging issues independently, escalating only significant problems with proposed solutions to the Production Manager to streamline decision-making.
  • Communication & Reporting
    • Complete and submit daily End-of-Day (EOD) packaging reports, including metrics, training progress, and issue logs.
    • Coordinate cross-functionally with the Inventory, Distribution and Production Leads and the Facilities & EHS Manager to ensure smooth workflows, efficient equipment functions, and label compliance.
    • Proactively identify and resolve packaging issues independently; escalate significant challenges with proposed solutions.
    • Align daily with the Production Manager to determine daily and hourly goals, and to verify Batch Tracking Sheets and corresponding rack numbers.
    • Track and report key metrics, including throughput (units/hour), yield, waste, and downtime.
  • Team Development & Safety
    • Coach team members through the Packaging Lead Training Checklist to ensure readiness across label printing, equipment operation, setup, and verification steps.
    • Reinforce a safety-first culture; conduct start-of-shift huddles covering safety, quality, and plan for the day. Immediately address hazards and near-misses.
